Book Week celebrates the joy of books and reading and is a highlight of the year for our primary classes. Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia announces a national theme and recognises outstanding Australian children’s literature, with schools and libraries across the country joining in the celebrations.

Using the theme as inspiration, the Catherine McAuley Library is transformed into a colourful and creative space, with classes contributing to the decorations. The teacher librarians and library staff organise an exciting week of activities, which has included visits from authors and illustrators, craft sessions, book swaps, visits from bookshops with opportunities to select new books for the library, literature-themed treasure hunts and quizzes.

The finale for the week is the much-anticipated Book Week Parade, where students enthusiastically embrace the annual theme through creative costumes while keeping books as their focus.
