Convent of Mercy Cloisters 2026

Convent of Mercy

The Angas Street Convent of Mercy began with the purchase of an Angas Street property, the Dutton-Green house in 1880, which was extended over time.

Cunningham Memorial Chapel outside

Cunningham Chapel

Mother Cecilia Cunningham received a large inheritance from her parents in Argentina and asked that a portion of it be used to erect a convent chapel in memory of her parents.

Dunlevie Building eastern end 2024 3

Dunlevie Building

Originally named McAuley House, the Dunlevie Building was renamed after Sr Teresa Dunlevie, the first Australian-born leader of the Mercy Sisters on Angas Street and Principal from 1918 to 1944.

Campion Jordan Building

Jordan Building

Named after Sr Campion Jordan (Sr Deirdre Jordan), old scholar and Principal of St Aloysius College from 1954 until 1968. This new building signalled the focus of the College from Angas Street to Wakefield Street.

Auditorium Lift Tower 2021

McAuley Centre

Named in honour of the founder of the Mercy Order, the building includes the Catherine McAuley Library and Auditorium.

Dame Roma Mitchell Building 1

Mitchell Building

Named after old scholar Dame Roma Mitchell, who attended St Aloysius College from 1919 to 1930 and became an influential role model for women.

Carmel Bourke Expressive Arts Centre Building 1

Expressive Arts Centre

The Carmel Bourke Expressive Arts Centre is named after old scholar and Principal of St Aloysius College from 1945 to 1953, in recognition of her deep passion for the arts.
