Outreach and Events

Founded in 1986 by the Sisters of Mercy, Carrington Cottages provided low cost inner-city housing for fifty five homeless men in a boarding house style accommodation. Sr Betty Schonfeldt, who entered the Convent of Mercy in 1955, served as the first Administrator, dedicating 25 years to the organisation before her retirement in 2014.

In 2019, it became a Community Housing Provider, providing transitional housing for men, women, couples and pets under one roof. The primary objective of Carrington Cottages is to offer temporary housing relief as a stepping stone towards achieving long-term affordable housing. The focus is on creating a supportive community environment that foster growth, stability and success as tenants rebuild their lives.

St Aloysius College supports the important work carried out by Carrington Cottages through its annual fundraising events such as the Mercy Day Carnival and the Colour Fun Run.
