From 1938 until 1975, Adelaide celebrated Flower Day. It was a great occasion with ornate displays of flowers together with parades of floats decorated with masses of blooms.
In 1960, the Day was held in conjunction with the Festival of Arts. The War Memorial on North Terrace, the lawns around Government House and in Victoria Square, were favoured sites for the displays.
St Aloysius College’s 1960 contribution was the school emblem in flowers and was displayed on North Terrace. The photo of our display was donated by Mrs S. Butler, an Old Scholar.
