Tegan Brink
A senior career officer with the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Tegan Brink attended St Aloysius College from 1992 to 1996 and was dux of the College in 1996. During her time at SAC, Tegan was involved in debating, mock trial competitions, school orchestra, Amnesty International and was a member of the Student Representative Council. In 1995, when she was in Year 11, she spent six months as an exchange student in France. Tegan also represented SAC at the Youth Futures’ Forum in Sydney.
After graduating from St Aloysius College, Tegan obtained an Arts/Law degree from Sydney University, graduating with First Class Honours and the University Medal. She holds a Masters of Laws from Columbia University in New York, which she attended as a Fulbright Scholar.
Tegan joined the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2003 to pursue a career in diplomacy. Her work has taken her to Switzerland, China, Turkey, Denmark and Italy.
From 2005 to 2008, Tegan served at Australia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and World Trade Organization in Geneva.
She is currently a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and in January 2023 was appointed as Australia’s High Commissioner to South Africa. Before taking up this role, she served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations as an Assistant Secretary in the Office of Trade Negotiations, with responsibility for negotiating and implementing free trade agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. Tegan has also led the Trade and Investment Law Branch.
