Adelaide Day Centre
A place that provides support, purposeful activities and companionship to men experiencing homelessness.
Adelaide Day Centre was established in 1985 by Sr Janet Mead, a Sister of Mercy at St Aloysius College. It is a place that provides support, purposeful activities and companionship to men experiencing homelessness. This welcoming community offers activity programs including gardening, woodwork, crafts and living skills as well as food relief and assistance in navigating emergency assistance.
As part of the Justice and Mercy (JAM) initiative, students at St Aloysius College have the opportunity to participate in weekly lunchtime volunteering at the Adelaide Day Centre. Through these experiences, students develop a practical connection to their faith while working alongside the centre’s volunteers to prepare meals, chop vegetables, sort blankets and supplies for those in need.
St Aloysius College supports the Adelaide Day Centre through donations raised from the Mercy Day Carnival, the Colour Run and the annual Can Drive. The Centre uses the 10,000 cans collected by the SAC community for food hampers for those in need.
