Blankets and Beanies of Love
A knitting project fostering community, compassion and creativity among students.
This Justice and Mercy (JAM) project fosters community, compassion and creativity among students from years six to nine. Gathering weekly, up to thirty-five students, along with their dedicated teachers, busily knit, crochet, and learn new skills. Whether novices or experienced, the atmosphere is one of mutual support, laughter and learning. Counting and collecting colourful squares culminates in the creation of beautiful blankets to provide warmth to those in need.
Over the past twenty-one years, this generous project’s recipients include Sister Janet Mead’s Adelaide Day Centre, Catherine House, Birthline, the APY Lands and the Mercy House of Welcome.
Its success is bolstered by the support of the broader school community. Staff, families and friends contribute woollen squares, blankets and beanies, enhancing this powerful JAM project. This ongoing effort truly embodies the spirit of compassion and giving.
