Book Week is a favourite event, especially for our primary students, which celebrates the joy of books and reading. Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia announces a Book Week theme and recognises outstanding Australian children’s books, with schools and libraries across the country joining in the fun.

Using the theme as inspiration, the Catherine McAuley Library is transformed into a vibrant space filled with colourful displays. The teacher librarians and library staff organise an exciting week of activities, which have included visits from authors and illustrators, craft sessions, book swaps, visits from bookshops with opportunities to select new books for the library, literature-themed treasure hunts and quizzes.

The finale for the week is the much-anticipated Book Week Parade, where students enthusiastically embrace the annual theme through creative costumes while keeping books as their focus.
