Can Drive
This vibrant community event reflects the College’s spirit of Mercy.
The Can Drive was established in 1997 to support the work of the Adelaide Day Centre. Home classes collected canned food items and competed to create the most impressive can sculpture. The first Can Drive collected 2,342 cans.
Now a major event on the school calendar, the Can Drive has evolved to incorporate the celebration of Book Week. Coordinated by Year 11 students, senior classes partner with junior classes to design and construct can sculptures inspired by the annual Book Week theme. This vibrant community event reflects the College’s spirit of Mercy, bringing younger and older students together to create colourful and imaginative sculptures.
Over the years, the Can Drive has continued to grow. With the numbers of cans collected reaching over 10,000, the Adelaide Day Centre is able to provide meals and soup to more than 6,000 people and prepare approximately 2,500 Christmas hampers for families experiencing hardship.
Through this initiative, students make a meaningful contribution to the local community while gaining a deeper understanding of service and social justice.
